1 The four basic characteristics of modern warehousing:
(1) Dynamic processing. Traditional warehousing primarily involves static handling of warehouses and goods, with the more goods stored, the better; Modern warehousing is the dynamic management of products, with the base controlling the inventory of products. The fewer products stored, the better, and the more frequent and faster the products enter and exit the warehouse, the better. (2) Value added services. The service function of traditional warehousing is single, primarily focused on warehousing management; Modern warehousing services are multifunctional, integrated, and value-added. (3) Mechanization and automation work. Traditional warehousing is mainly based on manual labor, while modern warehousing is mainly based on mechanized work and also includes automated work. (4) Information technology processing. Traditional warehousing processing involves ledger and stack cards; Modern warehousing utilizes computer information systems (WMS).
2 The operational format of modern warehousing
Public warehousing (service warehousing): self built or leased warehouses, providing warehousing services and value-added services for Guangda Industrial and Commercial Company.
Self service warehousing: Renting warehouses of different standards to consumers or small and medium-sized companies, providing environmental and safety guarantees, and allowing customers to handle the items in the warehouses themselves.
Warehouse rental (real estate warehousing): self built warehouse and providing warehouse rental and related services, not providing warehousing services.
Financial warehousing (commonly referred to as "chattel pledge supervision" in China and "collateral handling" in foreign countries): The supervision or monitoring activities carried out by public warehousing companies or collateral handling companies entrusted by borrowing organizations on collateral inventory.
3 Typical forms of modern warehousing
The four basic characteristics of modern warehousing are reflected in public warehousing (service-oriented warehousing), which is typically represented by various logistics and distribution bases, including inventory control bases, processing and distribution bases, value-added service bases, and application bases for modern logistics equipment and skills in logistics and supply chain management. This is fundamentally different from the distribution bases of shipping companies and express delivery companies, which mostly belong to "cross warehouse work" and do not have functions such as inventory management.
